Declutter Game Challenge - Day #20: Sorority, Service, Seniors!

Hey, hey frugalicious ones!!

Back to report on my Declutter Game Challenge - Day #20!! I already knew what day #20 would be when I first started this challenge. Every April, my sorority has a Regional Conference and the region collectively donates to a worth cause in the community where the convention in held. Each chapter is awarded Community Service points for participating in the effort and this year is no exception.

This year's conference is in the Chicago area (I LOVE Chicago). We need at least 20 items to get credit for our chapter, so I donated 20 items to this community service project from my couponing stockpile. This will be my chapter's contribution to the cause and my way of showing sisterhood, since I am unable to attend this year.

The worthy recipients of these items, as well as other items from chapters in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, & Wisconsin are the following:

  • Pillar Social Service Organization (For Women)
  • Featherfist Transitional Living (For Men)
  • Vivian Carter Senior Housing Facility (For Seniors)
My chapter's contributions will be going to the Senior Housing Facility, in line with our commitment to Senior Care this year.

I'm honored to be able to be a blessing to others, especially though my couponing efforts. Let this be a reminder, no matter what you have, be it a little or a lot, you always have enough to give to someone else. I'm giving to declutter, but I know I'll be blessed one hundred fold. Go out and be a blessing today!! :)

Cover Blown on the CoverGirl Freebies...The Truth

Couponers...BEWARE!!

If you're a couponer, then you are familiar with our beloved CoverGirl coupons. We originally were getting $1.00 off ANY one CoverGirl item, but for the last couple of months, in addition to this gem, we've also been getting $3.00 off ANY two CoverGirl items. We found out we can use them at Family Dollar to get some awesome beauty tools and so, you KNOW we were getting them faithfully!!

I have been having some "interesting" experiences with Family Dollar and their coupon procedures. This happens typically because the register beeps EVERY time we use this coupon. The beep is fine because we know the cashier can manually punch in the discount and Voila...free stuff!! Every time!! It's not usually without some discussion though, as cashiers were coming up with every excuse known (and not known) to couponers, so that we wouldn't walk away with freebies. Some "discussions" are plain ridiculous because my free stuff does not come out of their checks and they certainly don't get paid enough to argue about a $1.00 coupon.

I was going to list all the excuses and blog about it, but after doing a little more research, I found out that Family Dollar found the biggest loophole to stop our usage on theses products. Just for fun, I even solicited one of my favorite couponing groups I LUV 2 COUPON, to run down a list of excuses they've received and here's a few:

Excuse: The picture doesn't match the product.
Answer: It doesn't have to match the product in the picture, just whatever is WRITTEN on the coupon. By the way, the picture changes periodically.

Excuse: You're not allowed to get items for free.
Answer: I am permitted to use my coupon as long as it doesn't exceed the amount of the product and even then...

Excuse: Your coupon is for more than the item costs.
Answer: According to your coupon policy, you are to adjust the coupon down to the price of the item. I realize I'm still responsible for the tax.

BONUS Excuse: It's illegal to get free stuff with coupons.
No need to answer that one...pure nonesense.

Anyway, today, I had the worst experience with the CoverGirl coupons EVER!! So bad, in fact, I had to send a message to Family Dollar's corporate office regarding the poor customer service. The cashier was rude and told me I couldn't use the coupon even before I put it on the counter. She told me since the product was not a P&G (Proctor & Gamble) product, they couldn't take my P&G coupon. But it was the way she said it, talked over me and continued to talk crazy as I exited the store. Unacceptable.

It still didn't sit well when I got home, so I called CoverGirl (800-426-8374) to ask about their products. I found out that some of their CoverGirl products were licensed to a company called Bassett. These products include the following CoverGirl/CoverGirl Queen accessories products:

  • Pumice Stones
  • Nail Clippers
  • Tweezers
  • Emory Boards
  • Eyelash Curlers
  • Etc

Basically...ALL of Family Dollar's CoverGirl beauty items!! Skeptical? Turn your package over, you won't see P&G there, but Bassett Brands. This is Family Dollar's loophole and perhaps for good reason, because if P&G is not going to pay them for the coupons used to buy Bassett licensed products that completely makes sense. I concluded this is probably the communication that Family Dollar's District Manager sent to his stores....so couponers, it looks like we'll be out of luck in the future trying to score these goodies. My projection: their loophole, their loss. We'll simply stop buying them. The End.

This is Frugalicious Diva reporting the Coupon News...signing off!!

Couponing: Real Savings, Real Money!!

Even though I was raised in a couponing house, I did not understand their savings power. I would use coupons every now and then, whenever I had one, but otherwise...never.

Thanks to Extreme Couponers both nationwide and locally, I became curious. I was beginning to see all their savings and my favorite: the free stuff!! I figured if folks were getting items for free, I wanted to be in line and when I learn something, I love to share it with anyone who is willing to listen.

Look at the picture below. This was so real for me. If you have ever doubted the power of couponing, this should make you a believer!! If you're not using coupons, you need to get on board because...
Coupons = Money

$6.00 for 1               $4.00 for all

It's Lent Season!!

It's Lent time!!

So...what are you giving up for Lent?

As for me? The Frugalicious Diva is giving up beef and carbonated drinks. So this household will focus more on chicken (like always), turkey, fish and water. We'll probably scale back on pork too, but it's not on the elimination list.

What are you picking up for Lent? I'm of the firm belief when you get rid of a negative thing, then it should be replaced with a positive one!!

Hmm...I'm thinking I really want to master this couponing thing, so I'll only purchase food or household items IF I have a coupon. It's all about saving right?

Will you join me? How can you commit to being more FRUGALICIOUS before Easter?

My Frugalicious Weekend!!

What an eventful weekend!! I was excited all week waiting for my Extreme Couponing Saturday!! I was already on a zero spending challenge, that I broke in order to experience my first EC experience!! Check it out: My 1st Extreme Couponing Experience

Saturday came and I attended my first official coupon class, taught by Extreme Couponer Joni Meyer-Crothers of Saving and Sharing for Christ. Awesome and very down to earth!! This is truly her calling and ministry; so willing to share!! I was a sponge!! Giveaways & coupons galore!! Check out her blog site for weekly savings and tips on how to save more!! Free Tastes Good

My goal this year is to master couponing, stock and maintain a stockpile for my church's pantry and help others to get free items. It's about being frugalicious, saving money and being generous to other people. I love the motto of Saving & Sharing for Christ...to pass the blessing on. I believe that's the reason we're blessed; to bless others. That class was a blessing to me, not only because of the knowledge, but because of the awesome people I met in that room.

I asked my neighbor seated next to me if she needed pet food coupons. To my surprise, she donates to the Humane Society!! Later she passed me five coupons and told me I'd get a surprise at the register. At the end of class, I met a group of women I think I'll be friends with for life!! We had a common goal to save, but to do something for our community. Stay tuned, as we're in the planning stages.

The ladies I met in class accompanied me on my shopping trip and it was an eye opener. I had all my coupons ready to get my free or cheap items and I never once thought...the shelf may be empty. Boo!! Those are the breaks though. I didn't walk away without anything though. Here's what I got this weekend!!

From Kroger: The diced tomatoes were on the 10/10 promo list, so they were 0.49 each. I have five $1.00 off 2 coupons. They paid me back 0.10. <--That was my surprise!!

Family Dollar: The CoverGirl items are tweezers, travel tweezers and a wide nail brush and were all FREE, using two coupons I had for ANY CoverGirl. So I just chose the items were would be free and I could use. Mustard was on clearance for 0.80 and I had a 0.30 off coupon. Had a coupon for 0.85 for the Coke. Total at FD: $1.58

Walmart: BIC pens were free with $1.00 off coupon. For the toothpaste, I used two 0.50 off coupons. Total at Walmart: $1.04

So, this weekend I spent $2.52 and got all of the above, PLUS a free dinner at Chipotle. My daughter allowed me to redeem her comped meal from a previous complaint she filed. It was a great weekend; completely FRUGALICIOUS!!

My First Extreme Couponing Experience!!

Today is such a great day!! I am so grateful for the people I meet and the things I experience!! I met and became fast friends with a local couponing GURU!! She know about the sales, the coupons to use and the deals on top of the deals!! The best part about it is she shared her knowledge with me, helping me to fulfill my goal of being coupon savvy in 2012!!

So after meeting and partially putting my book together (Thank you and I'll get the rest done), I set out to Kroger to see what savings I could get. I'm not good with all the lingo and terms yet, but I can say I saved!! I got everything below for $5.95!! According to my receipt, my total Kroger savings today was $18.34!! I'm impressed and I'm hooked. Big THANK YOU shout out to Tasha of I LUV 2 COUPON!! Check her out and join the group on Facebook here: I LUV 2 Coupon and get info on weekly frugal deals and share your own savings!!

Taking it Up a Notch: Coupon Class

Happy New Year!! It's a new season and it's a new day!! So, that means it's time for us to take our FRUGALICIOUS-NESS to the next level!!

I can save, spot a sale and make some money, but my couponing game could use a boost. Yes, I use coupons currently, but I want to save like they save on Extreme Couponing!! It is one of Frugalicious Diva's goals to attend a coupon class, so I began looking for one in my area.

I actually found one that is free and that's great!! However, I also found another one by one of the Extreme Couponing All-Stars Joni Meyer-Crothers!! Listen to this: the class fee is $10.00 AND 5 nonperishable food or hygienic items to donate to a local non-profit!! I LOVE IT!! They believe in passing the blessing on and so do I!! I signed up quickly, as I heard her class fills up quickly. I'm so excited to learn and even more excited to share what I learn!!
By the way, if you love to coupon, then join other who do too!! Check out I LUV 2 Coupon on Facebook!! Also, make sure you're watching out for freebies and such on my page on Facebook: Frugalicious Diva and follow me on Twitter @FrugaliciousDva
